LIRR makes going Home to Plainview for Holidays Easier Today

MTA adds 14 trains today; reduced fares for the holiday weekend.

The Long Island Rail Road is providing additional trains and discount fares during the holiday weekend.

Fourteen extra trains will depart Penn Station on Christmas Eve Friday between 12:43  and 3:40 p.m. The railroad also offers its discounted  Family Fare program this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 25 and Dec. 26.

According to the LIRR: "...with the Family Fare, up to four children ages 5-11 can ride weekend off peak trains for the advance purchase fare of 75-cents per child each way when accompanied by a fare-paying parent or guardian. Weekly and monthly ticket holders just pay for the kids.  Children under 5 ride free on the LIRR."

The additional trains Friday include: 

On the Ronkonkoma Branch (which runns through Hicksville station)  the 12:43 p.m. at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville and all stops to Ronkonkoma including nearby Bethpage.

The 1:43 p.m. stopping at Woodside, Jamaica, Mineola, Hicksville and all stops to Ronkonkoma, including Bethpage.

On the Port Jefferson Branch (which runs through Hicksville, then on through nearby Syosset, the 2:10 p.m with stops at at Jamaica, Carle Place, and then all stops to Huntington, including Hicksville and Syosset.

The 2::29 p.m. stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, and then all stops to Huntington including Hicksville and Syosset.

The 3:24 p.m., stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury, and Hicksville.
