Plainview Restaurants Earn Good Marks on Inspections

Vast majority of 105 food establishments had minor violations; all have been corrected, according to state report.

The State Health Department reported inspections of more than 100 food service establishments in Plainview during 2013 and found the vast majority to be largely in compliance with state codes.

That's the results of a Patch review of state documents  of those inspections.

For example, establishments as diverse as the VFW Post on Old Country Road, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park, and most school cafeterias had no violations during 2013.

Not one of the 105 establishments reviewed by Nassau County Health Department officials last year had more than "one critical violation," according the state. The critical violations are more serious.

All of those critical violations have subsequently been corrected.

For example, the Four Points Sheraton chalked up a critical violation in December for not having accurate food thermometers to test for safe internal temperatures. The problem has already been corrected, according to the report.

The routine violations were noted in a wide range of local establishments. For example, many of these were evidence of food not being protected during storage, display and service. That's the equivalent of not tightly wrapping leftovers in your household refrigerator.

The various county health departments make these inspections routinely and follows up with restaurants that have critical violations. The reports then go to the state.

The report stated that, in follow up visits, all of the violations had been corrected, including those cited as critical.
