PSEG Adds Contractors, Preps for Snowstorm

The utility said heavier snow, icing and strong winds could increase the possibility of downed wires and associated power outages.

PSEG Long Island on Wednesday afternoon said it was bringing on contractors, including tree crews, to assist the utility's own workforce as it prepared for a snowstorm that could dump up to 9 inches of snow on the region between Thursday afternoon and Friday.

PSEG, which took control of the power grid from the Long Island Power Authority on Wednesday, added that it was prepared to handle the storm.

But the utility also said heavier snow, icing and strong winds would increase the possibility of downed wires and associated power outages. PSEG warned that depending on the storm's severity, response times could be longer than usual.

To report downed wires or power outages, customers should call PSEG Long Island's service line at 1-800-490-0075.

General outage activity throughout the PSEG service territory is available online at the PSEG Long Island website.
