Public Hearing Explores Plainview Tire Expansion

Old Country Road firm wants to add four service bays to its shop

The Town of Oyster Bay held a public hearing Tuesday on a proposal to allow Plainview Tire to expand its business.

The Plainview firm has proposed adding four service bays to its shop in an existing building at 1546 Old Country Rd. The business has been in the neighborhood since 1971 and already does repairs.

The firm operates a retail tire store on the property as well as a car wash.  The request for a special use permit would expand the business to perform auto repairs on the north side of the property.

No member of the public spoke about the proposal. Representatives of Plainview Tire argued the firm has been a community institution for four decades and has operated without incident.

A parking study showed that the property has sufficient parking spaces, more than 20, and could accommodate the four new service bays proposed for the business.

The board voted to reserve decision on the proposal to a future meeting.
