Scorching Day Extends TOBAY Beach Hours

Athletic activities and dog park shut down again.

With a heat advisory in effect for Nassau County until 8 p.m. The town of Oyster Bay took more steps to keep residents cool and safe Tuesday.

Lifeguards at TOBAY Beach were ordered to remain on the job until 6 p.m.  and the hours at the beach's spray park were extended until as well. 

Earlier in the day Town officials announced that Community Park pools will remain open until 9 p.m.

For the second consecutive day, the town has shut down both the dog park and skate park and all outdoor activities were prohibited until 7 p.m.

Shortly before 2 p.m. the mercury soared to 93 degrees at Farmingdale Airport, while JFK reported a temperature of 9g degrees about an hour later.

The heat advisory is in affect until 8 p.m.  and residents are advised to stay out of the sun and drink plenty of fluids.
