Friday is Veterans Day, a federal holiday honoring all military veterans who have served the nation.
schools are closed in honor of the holiday, as are all federal, state and local government offices, including the state Department of Motor Vehicles and the county courts.
There is no delivery and no garbage pickup or S.O.R.T. recycling collection. The Long Island Rail Road is operating on a normal schedule on Veterans Day.
The stock markets are open Friday; the bond markets are closed. Banks have the option to close, but some remain open. Check with your local branch.
