UPDATE: Morning Commute Should be OK on LIRR

System-wide delays caused by cut cable; repairs have been made.

The Long Island Rail Road  expects Friday morning's commute to be normal after major system-wide delays Thursday evening.

Thursday's problems were the result of cut signal cable inadvertently damaged by a contractor. The signal problems impacted two of the LIRR's four East River tunnels, the railroad reported.

The damage was repaired Thursday evening and should make Friday's commute normal.

Thursday's delays ranged up to 30 minutes system-wide. The delays impacted both the Ronkonkoma and Port Jefferson lines which run through Hicksville.
