TOBAY Notebook: Reminder on Garbage Rules

The issued a reminder about its rules for garbage pick-up.

The town has an ordinance which stipulates that garbage may be placed at the curbside only after 5 p.m. the night before a scheduled collection and that containers must be removed from the curbline by 8:p.m. on the day of collection. The ordinance also stipulates that containers should be placed at the curb, not in the roadway.

Garbage should be placed in either plastic bags or in containers with handles or handgrips and lids. Containers should be no larger than 32 gallons. Both bags and containers should weigh no more than 50 pounds when filled.

Residents can report garbage being put out too early, or ask questions about town sanitation, by calling (516) 677-5848. Residents who reside in villages, (except Farmingdale and Massapequa) or who have private sanitation should contact their carter.

The Town's Ice Skating Center in Bethpage will offer extended sessions during the winter school break, April 5 through 14,

The holiday schedule for public session at the Ice Skating center will be:

  • April 5: 10-noon and 1-3: p.m.
  • April 6: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 4:-6: p.m., and 7:-9: p.m.
  • April 7: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:-3 p.m., 3:30-5:30 p.m., and 6:-8 p.m.
  • April 8: Closed
  • April 9-12: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1-3 p.m., 3-5:30 p.m.
  • April 13: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1-3 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
  • April 14: 1-3 p.m., 3:30-5:30 p.m., and 6-8 p.m.

During the spring break period, the following sessions will be cancelled: 10:00 a.m.-noon Speed Skating on April 6, 9, and 13; 3:45-6 p.m. Puck Shoot on April 12; 1:-2:30 p.m. Lunchtime Open Hockey on April 10; 2:45-4:14 p.m. Afternoon Freestyle on April 10; and 2:30-4:45 p.m. Afternoon Freestyle on April 11.

General admission for Oyster Bay Town residents for two-hour public skating sessions at the rink is $2 for ages 2 to 4, $5. for ages 5 through 17, $6 for ages 18 and older, and $4 for senior citizens 60 and older.

S.T.O.P. program kicks off Apri 14

The first of eight 2012 Household Hazardous Waste Disposal (S.T.O.P.-Stop Throwing Out Pollutants), Electronic Waste (e-waste) and Drug Collection programs for Oyster Bay residents is scheduled for Saturday, April 14.

It's open to all town residents and will be held at Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information call 677-5943 or go the town's website at www.oysterbaytown.com.
