Town: Hire Licensed Landscapers

Oyster Bay Town Clerk Steve Labriola reminds residents that for their own protection, they should make sure they hire only Town-licensed landscapers.

“You can identify a Town-licensed landscaper by the identification decal affixed to the driver’s side door of each vehicle and to the left rear bumper of any trailer used in the course of business. They are also required to carry the license or a photocopy signed by the licensee at all times.

The provides a number of regulations. These include restricting landscapers to working Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. No work is permitted on Sunday.

The Town Clerk advised residents that if they witness an unlicensed landscaper operating or witness a violation of Town Code, they can call the Department of Public Safety at 677-5350 both weekdays and weekends. Public Safety Officers are authorized to issue appearance tickets and summonses for violations.

S.O.R.T. Brochure Available

The town has an informative, free brochure that offers a comprehensive overview of the Town’s curbside recycling program.

The S.O.R.T. (Separate Oyster Bay’s Recyclables Today) brochure provides residents with information on which metals, glass and plastics are appropriate to place in the S.O.R.T. pail. It also provides information on how to properly prepare newspapers, magazines and mixed paper for collection.

The brochures are available at both town halls, the Department of Public Works (Syosset) and at major park facilities. A copy can also be downloaded from the Town’s Web site, www.oysterbaytown.com.
