TOBAY Notebook: February Performances

The town is sponsoring a wide assortment of concerts and events for adults and children in February.

A cross-section of free entertainment is planned for February and sponsored by the . 

The town's "Distinguished Artists" series includes the music of Sri Lanka, an afternoon of rock and roll, excerpts from the ballet Swan Lake and a violin recital.

“The performances ...truly represent an opportunity for residents to experience a wide variety of completely different musical styles, as well as a beloved ballet,” said .

The February line-up of free concerts are:

  • Feb. 5: Bethpage Public Library; singing duo Eranga and Prianga present the songs and culture of their native Sri Lanka, at 2 p.m.
  • Feb. 12: Massapequa Public Library: The Vic Vincent Group's rock and roll tour through the 50’s and 60’s at the Massapequa Library, at 2 p.m.
  • Feb. 18: Syosset Public Library; excerpts of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, performed by . The performance will take place at Syosset Public Library, at 8 p.m.
  • Feb. 25: violinist Anton Polezhayev with a program of classical and romantic violin favorites by composers Saint-Saens, Sarasate, Paganini, Kreisler and others, accompanied by Yelena Polezhayev on piano. 8 p.m.

The “Distinguished Artists” concert series is sponsored by the Cultural and Performing Arts (CAPA) Division of the Town of Oyster Bay’s Department of Community & Youth Services. Anyone interested in obtaining a schedule of free concerts should call 797-7900.

Library performances for children

The town also announced dates for its children's programs at area libraries. They are:

  • "Pinocchio" at the Locust Valley Library, Feb. 11.
  • Chip Bryant's vaudeville-style comedy show at the Bethpage Library, Feb. 21.
  • A children's dance program by Dance Visions at the Bethpage Library, Feb. 22.
  • An afternoon of magic by "Professor Hackensneeze" at the Massapequa Public Library, Feb. 26.

All the shows are free and begin at 2 p.m.

Landmarks Commission meeting canceled

The Town of Oyster Bay meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 25, has been cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for March 21.
