Oyster Bay pays tribute to those lost on Dec. 7, 1941; town holiday sanitation schedule announced.

Town Supervisor and Town Councilman joined the American Legion Quentin Roosevelt Post No. 4 and Oyster Bay Memorial Post No 8033 VFW at the the town's annual ceremony commemorating the attack on

The event was held at Teddy Roosevelt Marina in Oyster Bay. Commemorative wreaths were tossed into the water in memory of the nearly 3,000 lives lost that day in that led the United States into World War II. The ceremony was led by U.S. Navy Captain Stephen T. Treacy (ret.)

Holiday giving in town spotlight

A Coat Drive at Parish Outreach in Syosset collected more than 115 items of winter apparel, donated through Kids Helping Kids by Kids Way, Inc.

St. Edward the Confessor will distribute the clothing to Long Islanders in need. Liana Giannuzzi, a student at St. Edward the Confessor School and a Junior member of Kids Helping Kids, arranged, along with her family, for the donation on behalf of St. Edward the Confessor School.

On hand for this event was Oyster Bay Town Councilman Chris Coschignano.

Garbage schedule to be modified for holidays

The town announced its sanitation and S.O.R.T. recycling collection schedules for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

There will be no sanitation recycling collection on both Monday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Residents who normally receive sanitation or recycling collection on those two Mondays will have pickup on Tuesdays, Dec. 27 and Jan. 3.

Tuesday customers will receive collection on Wednesday, Dec. 28 and Jan. 4.

All town offices will be closed on those days, but parks and ice rinks will be open, with extended hours at all rinks.

Town offices will close after a half day on the afternoons of Fridays, Dec. 23 and Dec. 30, in observance of Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

There will be normal town sanitation and S.O.R.T. recycling collections on those Fridays.
