Town to sponsor annual plunge for UCPN in March.

A day at the beach -- in March?

That's what hundreds of people, often referred to as , are expected to do and even swimming in the chilly waters off Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, Beach and Marina in Oyster Bay on Sunday, March 11.

The 8th anual Polar Bear "Break the Ice Swim" is a benefit for of Nassau County, Inc.

Festivities begin at 1 p.m.; the polar bears take the plunge at 2 p.m.

“The Polar Bear Swim is a unique and most worthwhile charity event, and I’m pleased to, again, lend the support of the Town to help ensure its success," said Oyster Bay Town , who has served as an Honorary Co-Chairman for the event since its inception.

Venditto said the event needs additional corporate sponsorship, as well as support from community groups, schools and civic and charitable organizations.

Extended Hours for Ice Rinks

All Oyster Bay Town will offer extended sessions during the winter school break, Feb. 19 -25. The rinks are located outside at Marjorie R. Post Community Park rink in Massapequa and at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park rink or indoors at the state-of-the art Town of Oyster Bay located in Bethpage Community Park

“Admission prices make it a great value for your recreation dollar,” said Town Councilman Joseph G. Pinto. A copy of the scheduled can be viewed on the Town’s Web site, www.oysterbaytown.com.

Pets for Seniors

Seniors living in the can adopt a pet from the Town Shelter with no adoption fee.

The adoption fee and any cost associated with spaying or neutering will be waived for a senior 62 and older who adopts a senior dog or cat. Seniors who adopt a dog would still have to pay the $5.00 license fee.
