Town to provide free firewood beginning Dec. 16 to residents.

What could be better than a flaming yule log, especially if the log is free?

Beginning Friday, Dec. 16, the will offer free firewood. Town residents can pick up free firewood every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the town Highway yard off the LIE's North Service Road in Syosset, after 3 p.m. on Friday and between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Private cars only; no vehicles with commercial plates. The wood is cut, but not split. For further information, call 677-5757.

Deadline approaches for property tax exemptions

Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes James J. Stefanich announced the property tax exemption application period ends on Jan. 2.

Homeowners must file with the Nassau County Department of Assessment before the deadline. The various tax breaks included STAR (New York State School Tax Relief) seniors' and veterans' exemptions.

 The Town of Oyster Bay Planning Advisory Board has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, December 15, according to Town Councilman Anthony D. Macagnone.

The town's Planning Advisory Board has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, Dec. 15. The meeting will be held in the town's hearing room, Town Hall East, 54 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, at 7 p.m.
