Town to Host High School Hockey Nights

OYSTER BAY NOTEBOOK: Also, outdoor ice rinks to open Friday.

Two Saturday night high school hockey contests are slated for the town’s Ice Skating Center in Bethpage.

The two games are part of the town's "High School Hockey Night in Oyster Bay" series. The games, which offer free admission, are held at the town's rink on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage

Starting off the series will be the Massapequa Chiefs taking on the Syosset Braves on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. The second contest, featuring the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks and the Bethpage Golden Eagles, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1, at 8 p.m.

“These events, which are free to all Town residents, feature high school teams that are among the finest in Nassau County,” Supervisor John Venditto said. “The players really look forward to competing at the Town of Oyster Bay’s state of the art rink and we are always pleased to have them here.”

Ice Rinks in Massapequa, Syosset Open Through March

Town residents will soon be able to enjoy outdoor ice skating at the Marjorie R. Post (Massapequa) and Syosset-Woodbury Community Park ice rinks, when the 2013-14 season officially begins the day after Thanksgiving, Friday Nov. 29.

The outdoor ice skating season runs through Sunday, March 2, 2014, weather permitting.

General admission for Oyster Bay Town residents for two-hour public skating sessions at both rinks will be $2 for ages 2-4, $4 for ages 5-17, $5 for ages 18 and older. Seniors (60 and older) skate for $2. Town veterans, volunteer firefighters and auxiliary police with identification pay $3.

Sanitation and Recycling Modified for Thanksgiving 

There will be no town sanitation or S.O.R.T. recycling collection on Thursday, Nov. 28, in observance of Thanksgiving Day.

Residents who normally receive sanitation or S.O.R.T collection on Thursday will have a special pickup on Friday, Nov. 29 and Friday customers will receive sanitation and S.O.R.T collection on Saturday, Nov. 30.

All town offices will be closed on Nov. 28.
