Two Public Voices of Oyster Bay Retire

Long-time public relations experts leaving town's public information office, opting to take retirement incentives.

Two long-time voices of the have decided to retire, effective Thursday, opting to take a retirement incentive offered by the town.

and announced their retirement in a short email to media sources and a wide range of other civic contacts just before 5 p.m. Thursday.

, a Plainview Republican, said both had decided the time was right.

"Both of them have had a tremendous dedication to public service and have a commendable record to the Town of Oyster Bay," Alesia said. "This was not a last minute decision. I think they felt it was just time"

Neither Barry nor Moriarty could immediately be reached for comment.

In their role, Barry and Moriarty assisted journalists and others in obtaining documents and backround on stories and issues of interest to the public. The office produces hundreds of press releases related to town events and news and distributed them to scores of area media outlets.

Moriarty recently served onthe Citizens Advisory Committee for the wide-reaching , representing the town.

In June, Town officials announced a program designed to reduce the overall size of the town's workforce. Financial incentives were offered to a wide range of employees. The town also has hinted that layoffs are possible if an insufficient number of employees don't take the incentives.

Alesia said both public servants are looking forward to their retirement and are making plans for the future.
