Voter Participation Critical in Coliseum Referendum

Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs stresses the need for public input on Aug. 1 vote.

Nassau County Legislator Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) has issued a press release urging all registered voters to participate in the Aug. 1 referendum to establish “the Nassau County Hub Area development program.”

The referendum seeks voter authorization to spend up to $400 million, to be borrowed by the County and expended solely for the construction of projects in the Hub Area including, a minor league baseball stadium and other projects.

“This referendum represents a significant commitment of taxpayer dollars," Jacobs said. "I urge all residents to vote in the Aug. 1 referendum. If you are going to be away on vacation, business or are unable to vote at your regular polling place you are entitled to vote by absentee ballot.”

Registered voters who anticipate being away on Aug. 1 should apply for their absentee ballot as soon as possible. Completed ballots must be submitted or postmarked before Aug. 1.

Applications for absentee ballots can be obtained by writing to or visiting the Nassau County Board of Elections, 240 Old Country Road, 5 Floor, Mineola, NY 11501. Applications are also available online at http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/BOE/allforms.html. For more information call the Board of Elections at 571-2411.

“I can’t stress enough the importance of this referendum. I strongly urge all voters to participate in this vital decision-making process. Remember, you must apply for absentee ballots as soon as possible in order to receive absentee ballots,” Jacobs said.

Richard, I agree. This road has so many potholes that were fixed, it dips and the county trees haveRead More lifted it up in areas that now hold water. I have ben living here for over 30 years, and I cannot recall it ever being done. It needs to be done soon, I so agree with you. Maybe Mangano will see this and do something, then again if we lived in Bethpage, it would of been done already.
