Why Can't the MTA Run on Time [Poll]

The MTA's "East Side Access" plan may be delayed until 2019.

The now says its tunnel project to provide LIRR riders direct access to Grand Central Terminal might be delayed until 2019.

The MTA says problems have emerged beneath Jamaica Station, including contaminated soil and unexpected underground water sources. The project was originally planned for completion in 2015. The authority has brought in tunneling experts from Europe to help solve the problems.

The East Side Access project would cut some 40 minutes from a typical journey made by LIRR riders whose ultimate destination is the East Side of Manhattan. Now, all LIRR trains end at Penn Station, on the West Side. If you've ever tried to get to Grand Central from Hicksville - either by cab from Penn Station or by subway from Jamaica, you know what we mean.
