Yesterday we were sadly reminded of the dangers faced by New York's bravest on a daily basis in the performance of their duties. FDNY Lt. Richard Nappi, of Farmingvile died while leading his engine company against a warehouse blaze in Flatbush Brooklyn. By all accounts Lt. Nappi was an exemplary firefighter having come up the ranks of the FDNY and serving heroically on 9/11 and its aftermath. Lt. Nappi also found time to give to his community of Farmingville as a member of its fire department. Additionally, Lt. Nappi served as an instructor at the Suffolk County Fire Academy. He did his job in an exceptional manner and taught others how to do the same. He led by example. We are all the better off and safer for the sacrifice and commitment of this fine man. May God Bless him and provide comfort to his loving family and friends.
