These Plainview-area students were honored for their academic and personal achievements.

The following Plainview-area students were honored recently for academic achievements by their respective colleges:

Providence College

Kristen D'Elia, a resident of Plainview and a member of the class of 2015 at Providence College, recently spent a week working with Habitat for Humanity as part of the College's Alternative Spring Break 2012 program.

D'Elia was among nearly 110 Providence College students who volunteered to spend their spring break working at Habitat home sites in 12 locations in the United States. They participated through the Habitat campus chapter at Providence College, which is sponsored by the chaplain's office. D'Elia worked on a home project in Concord, N.C.

Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University

Alex Friedlander of Plainview, a Fine Arts in Photography major at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University was named to the Deans List for the 2011 Fall semester.

 

SUNY Oneonta 

The following local residents were among 123 new members inducted into the SUNY Oneonta chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, the national scholastic honor society for college freshmen, during a ceremony in the Hunt College Union Ballroom on March 11.

With 365 chapters nationwide, Phi Eta Sigma promotes excellence through recognition programs and scholarship competitions. New members qualify by achieving grade-point averages of at least 3.5 during their first semester or year in college.

Emory College

The following students were named to the Dean's List of Emory College, the undergraduate, liberal arts college of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., for the 2011 fall semester. Students must be in the top 20 percent or have approximately a 3.81 grade point average or above to be named to the Dean's List.

Jaeha Han of Plainview: daughter of Deokhee Han and Youngja Han.

David Schwitzer of Plainview: son of Joel Schweitzer and Regina Schweitzer.

Buffalo State College

Melissa Recht, of Plainview, has been named to the School of Education fall 2011 dean's list at Buffalo State College. Recht, a graduate of Plainview JFK High School, is the daughter of Anne and Howard Recht.

The Kent School

Sarah Cho, a student in the 4th form (10th-grade) at Kent School in Kent, Connecticut, was named to the honor roll for the spring term of 2011-2012. She was also named to the honor roll for the winter term of 2011-2012.

Cho is the child of Mrs. Hye Youn Cho of Plainview. Kent is a co-ed college preparatory school founded in 1906 in the tradition of the Episcopal Church.
