Board Grants Tenure to 11 Teachers

At recent meeting, 11 are recognized for their qualifications, exceptional service.

The held a special meeting last week to honor several district teachers with tenure.

Students, parents and fellow staff members poured into the Board Room at Mattlin Middle School's Administrative Offices in support of eleven teachers who had been recommended for tenure.

After personal recognition from each instructor's principal, and a gift of flowers from the Board of Education, tenure was granted to the following Plainview-Old Bethpage district teachers:

  • Edward Hamlon
  • Holly Nelson
  • James Mayo
  • Susan Wetzler
  • Catherine McGinn
  • Brianna Hamrah
  • Carrie Campana
  • Jennifer Giglio
  • HyeSook Kang
  • Marjorie Klein
  • Christina Karayiannis

I do not believe in tenure. In every other profession enployees must continue to work hard to prove their value to their profession. Tennure is just anther excuse to allow teachers to stop preforming at their best.
