Do You Want an IB Program at Your Schools?

International curriculum encroaches on advanced placement territory.

The days where Advanced Placement classes were the only upper level course offered to excelling students may be fading, as a relatively new curriculum, International Baccalaureate, is being embraced at Long Island schools.

At the start of the 2012 school year, nine Long Island school districts will offer the curriculum, including , Commack, Northport-East Northport, Bay Shore, Sag Harbor and West Islip in Suffolk County.

The IB curriculum, according to a Newsday story published Monday on the topic, has so far been a hit in districts that have decided to pay the thousands in fees needed to set up the program, which puts more of an emphasis on critical thinking and writing. Critics, on the other hand, usually blast the cost of the program or its international endorsement.

From the Newsday article:

Experts and proponents say the IB high school curriculum gives students an edge because of its global perspective and rigor. Many students strive for the coveted IB diploma, which requires completion of at least seven advanced courses in their junior and senior years, including mathematics, science, English literature and history.

The courses emphasize essays and oral presentations, and a 4,000-word paper and community service are mandated.

Coming out of a tough budget year where several Suffolk budgets failed and others had to make tough cuts to come in under the tax cap, we're curious if locals would support their own districts setting up IB programs for their children.

10) IB is an NGO of UNESCO (UN), IB and UNESCO work out of the same building in Switzerland. The goal is to promote the UN ideology. 11) IB has little to do with real education and more to do with ideology; specifically the UN’s ideology and Agenda 21. 12) With IB schools give up some local control. Any disputes are handled in Switzerland with Swiss law. 13) Some states and political parties are trying to eliminate IB. 14) The IB diploma required TOK class is composed entirely of questions like, "When can it be right to disobey the law? Can suicide bombers be right?" 15) AP is the best fit for gifted students. 16) When IB/AP classes are combined the IB material must take priority. 17) For the IB diploma students must complete: six required classes in two years (three one year classes and three two year classes), a UN influenced philosophy course, write an extended essay, and complete 150 hours of community service. 18) IB is implemented in a deceitful way over and over throughout the United States. Once someone questions IB an open and honest discussion is never allowed, and the community becomes divided. Tin hat time. This is an academic curriculum. Relax already. This is not a new program and is already in more than a thousand of U.S. public schools. You do not have to participate in the program. But for those that can and do it is of great value. The universities and scholarship organizations recognize that students that do well in the IB program are most likely to succeed in college. There is NO foreign indoctrination. However, it is a curriculum that is recognized world-wide as a world class education. By meeting the standards of the IB program your students diploma is not questioned with regard to the very many different levels of educational quality found within this country. Its pretty much a guarantee that they are more than ready for advanced rigorous education.

What hysterical drivel. They actually quote Sen. Joseph McCarthy as if that gives weight to their arguments. They are actually dredging up old witch-hunters to support this new one.. Wow, what a bunch of paranoid drivel.

Did you know that "so-called" Tea Party Republicans work in the same building that all the liberal commie Democrats use to craft their pernicious country destroying legislation? Clearly they are just a secret arm of the Liberal Conspiracy that control Washington, D.C. in these end days we are living through.
