Educator Takes Up Duties in Plainview-Old Bethpage

South Huntington educator joins new district Thursday.

Dr. Timothy Eagen, the assistant superintendent of instruction and curriculum in the South Huntington district, starts his new job in Plainview Thursday.

A 1991 graduate of Whitman High School, Eagen is taking on the job of assistant superintendent for human resources, in the . He succeeds Arthur Jonas, who retired in June.

Eagen was with the South Huntington district for 15 years and was introduced this week at a Plainview board meeting.

"I'll miss South Huntington," he said Wednesday night, after accepting the congratulations of the South Huntington Board of Education. "I'll always bleed maroon."

Eagen comes from a family of teachers. Both his parents are educators, his sister teaches in South Huntington, and his wife is a school psychologist.

Asked about why he was leaving no room for time off between jobs, he said, the Plainview district wanted him to start Thursday and he wanted to "dot all the I's and cross all the T's" in South Huntington before leaving.

There was no immediate word on his successor.
