JFK High School Student Wins First Place at LI Science & Engineering Fair

Hannah Stewart honored for research.

Hannah Stewart, a Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District John F. Kennedy High School student,recently won first place at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair for her research-based project, “Host Preferences of Wild Northern and Southern Ixodes Scapularis.”  

Stewart conducted her research on the Lyme disease tick at Hofstra University with the university’s biology department chairman, Dr. Russell Burke.

She will advance to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles, California.
