An emotional week has begun for students, teachers and alumni of
Monday marked the last full day of classes at the Roman Catholic elementary school, slated to close forever by the by the end of the week.
Current students were treated to an afternoon picnic at the school Monday afternoon and will be dismissed early Tuesday. A prayer service is scheduled for Tuesday night at St. Kilian's auditorium for 7 p.m. A reception will follow.
Wednesday marks the official final day of classes. Even the school's website is slated to disappear in July.
The elementary school has been serving four nearby Catholic parish communities for about 20 years, including , St. Martin of Tours in Bethpage, St. Kilian's in Farmingdale and St. James in Seaford. The diocese decided to close the school as a cost cutting move.
