Plainview JFK students attend lecture at Hofstra University given by renowned physician.

Hofstra invited Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK students to their Medical School for a recent lecture about disparity and bias in healthcare.

Students from the Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK took part in the lecture and received autographed copies of “Seeing Patients: Unconscious Bias in Healthcare” authored by Dr. Augustus White III.

White is the first African-American to graduate from Stanford University School of Medicine and the first African American orthopedic resident at Yale Medical Center spoke during the lecture.

Dr. White is also the Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and was named the Ellen and Melvin Gordon Distinguished Professor of Medical Education.

The event was part of a series at the medical school promoting humanism in health care.
