Photo of the Day: Understanding Autism

Plainview JFK's "Kids on the Block" group uses skits to teach Parkway students about illness.

students from Ms. Procida’s class recently visited to present skits dealing with autism to third grade students.

The high school students from the "Kids on the Block" group explained what autism is and how it affects people differently.

They emphasized that not all people with autism react the same way to situations and, like those without autism, they learn differently from one another and face unique challenges each day of their lives.

“I was very impressed with the high school students’ presentation and their responses; and I was equally as impressed with Parkway’s third graders’ high level questions about autism,” said, the principal at Parkway School. “It’s always a pleasure to have our high school students at Parkway to teach and interact with our children.”
