Plainview: Let There Be (a) Light!

Mangano, Jacobs, community leaders celebrate long-awaited left-turn signal.

It was cause for bi-partisan celebration at the corner of Washington Avenue and Manetto Hill Road Thursday.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano was joined by Nassau Legislator Judy Jacobs and Plainview community leaders to formally announce the installation of a left-turn signal and turning lane at that intersection.

Drivers will now find it to be safer and easier to make a left onto Washington Avenue from southbound Manetto Hill Road.

“The safety of our roads is of paramount importance to my administration and I am aware that for years Plainview residents have tried to get a signal installed at this intersection,” Mangano said. “I am very pleased that by working together and listening to residents’ concerns, we were able to provide this important addition to the community.”

Jacobs, D-Woodbury, worked with the Republican county executive for some time bringing the change to the quirky intersection. Two Plainview schools and numerous public institutions and houses of worship are located on Washington Avenue.
