Upon their election by their colleagues, Lieberman and Pierno took the oath of office, administered by the school District Clerk Harriet Fischer, who was also appointed to a new term.
Pierno was re-elected to a 3-year term as a board of education trustee in May by the voters. Also re-elected in May was longtime Trustee Evy Rothman. She, too, took the oath of office.
The annual organizational meeting is filled with resolutions required by law to operate the school district. The motions approved included big items, like the continued retention of Guercio & Guercio as the district's law firm, and small things, like the $100 petty cash account authorized for each school principal to maintain and keep track of.
It also afforded the leaders of Plainview's PTAs to bid farewell to Superintendent , who is retiring. They did so with a playful skit involving a variety of candies. Dempsey said he'll be giving them to his grandchildren.
Dempsey is being replaced by, who takes over in August. Dr. Lewis was at Monday night's meeting.
