Plainview Schools Closed; All Activities Canceled Friday

Plainview joins most of Long Island in a snow day.

The way word travels these days, it's likely your kids broke the "news" already:

Plainview Schools announced Thursday evening that all classes and activities are canceled Friday as a result of the snow storm. All classes, childcare, and after- school activities are called off.

So the young people are already talking about sledding down Mattlin's famous hill and other forms of fun following sleeping in, a quick check of Twitter confirmed.

Early Friday, the snow continued to spread across Long Island. There were no significant power outages reported anywhere in the Plainview area at 2:30 a.m.

Patch will have complete coverage of the storm's cleanup and other local closings.

And, please alert us to anything newsy in and around town Friday. We're asking readers to send us photos of what your street looks like from the front door. Send them to joe.dowd@patch.com and we'll use the best ones from all over Plainview and Old Bethpage.

Please stay safe; temperatures are expected to plummet to dangerous levels. Roads are likely to be slick at least until noon or beyond.
