Plainview Whiz Kid: Jared Bursky

Highlighting kids around Plainview that make a difference in the community.

This week, Plainview Patch is highlighting another basketball player, but this time an underclassman who helped give his team a memorable season. Plainview's latest Whiz Kid is POB High School sophomore Jared Bursky.

  • Name: Jared Bursky
  • Age: 16
  • School: Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School
  • Accomplishment: Halfway through the winter season, Jared Bursky was bumped up from the JV basketball squad to play on varsity. As such a young player, this was a big move for the team, but the sophomore certainly delivered as a starting point guard. With Bursky on the roster, the varsity Hawks won the last four out of five conference games and made it into the first round of the county playoffs.
  • Key to Awesomeness: Bursky is all about sportsmanship, and he is very modest about his young, but successful, career on the court. According to varsity coach Mike Harris, Bursky really proved himself as a vital part of the team and is expected to achieve even more in his junior season next year. Although he still has much time to think about his path after high school, Bursky says he hopes to become a professional coach.
