POB Candidate Forum Tuesday Night

It's the public's chance to ask the questions of Plainview's three school board candidates.

Tuesday night offers Plainview voters the chance to ask direct questions of the candidates as the May 17th school board election and draws near.

The evening will be moderated by the League of Women Voters. The forum will be held at the at 7 p.m.

The district has proposed a preliminary budget of $134.2 million, a modest 2.5 percent increase over last year's spending plan. The tax levy is 2.6 percent; the tax rate has not been finalized but is expected to be under 3 percent.

There are two positions on the school board up for re-election. Three candidates will vie for the two positions. They are incumbents Debbie Bernstein and Ginger Lieberman and challenger Charles A. Mazzocchi.

The format calls for questions to be solicited from the audience in writing prior to the start of the program, meaning those with questions should arrive early.

Each candidate makes a two minute opening statement and then will be asked to respond to every question selected by the moderator. The evening concludes with a three minute closing statement by each candidate.
