School Year Moving Toward Climax: Is It Too Short?

Some believe the school year should actually be extended.

During the next two weeks, Plainview students will face final exams, the Regents, senior prom and graduation frenzy.

The school year isn't that much different than when the current generation of parents attended. School ends in June; it returns after Labor Day.

Some believe it's not enough schooling to keep American kids competitive with other cultures. Others think kids and teenagers are stressed enough and need to be allowed to be, well, kids.

Is there a middle ground, or a better way? We want to know what you think. Take our poll below, and weigh in with your comments.

The problem with schools today is there is too much garbage being taught. Do children really need to be taught about the 12th or 15th century politics? The curriculum needs to be overhauled in this country . Learning is about quality not quantity. I look at some of the useless information that my child is being taught and it is ridiculous.
