Student Composers Featured at JFK

New string quartet, jazz arrangement, performed by high school musicians.

Two student composers were featured in the on Dec. 15.

Students performed in a string quartet by Raymond Kim, a member of the JFK Wind and Jazz Ensembles. Kim was a PTA Reflections State Finalist and a recipient of the Long Island Scholar Artist Award of Excellence.

The Jazz Ensemble performed a version of the jazz standard “Cherokee” that was arranged by student Sam Weinstein. Weinstein is also a member of the Wind and Jazz Ensembles, and will be representing JFK as part of the All County Band this year.

“It is great to see students take the skills that they learned in their Advanced-Placement Music Theory classes and apply them to new compositions for our performing ensembles,” said Director of Music and Performing Arts Joshua Golbert.

The school district issued a statement of congratulations to these students and their music teachers, Mr. Loeb and Mr. Rubin.
