It's the weekend before the local election and the campaigns are in high gear all over the community. In addition to boning up on local politics, there's lots to do around Plainview this weekend. See our events  calendar for more area weekend happenings.

Friday's highlights:

1. is the venue for Friday night's featuring musical performances by the high school's stellar talent, including the voices of several a capella groups. There will be dance and other types of  performance as well. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door. Open to the community at 7 p.m.

2. Plainview educators have joined hundreds of other principals across the state in blasting New York's new teacher evaluation system. See our story here.

3. This weekend we'll be telling you about an upcoming interfaith commemoration of the 73rd anniversary of "Kristallnacht," or the "Night of Broken Glass." A moving ceremony is planned for Tuesday in Plainview.

4. Speaking of Tuesday, it's election day. All weekend, Patch will offer video reports of all the candidates for local offices. The videos are in the candidates' own words. It's a great way to get an idea of who these people are and why they want the job of representing the community. See Supervisor John Venditto and Challenger John Capobianco's videos now.
