Shortened school week begins; boys volleyball on tap.

Here's your chance to reacquaint yourself with the language you may have heard growing up. Temple Chaverim is again offering its series of Yiddish classes for adults.

1. is bringing back the "Mamma Loschen" with a new series of Yiddish Classes for adults! Beginners are more than welcome, and those with a little bit of Yiddish proficiency will also enjoy this fun and educational class. RSVP to Rosemary at (516) 367-6100: Session begins at 8 p.m.; $5.

2. A shortened school week begins today. At 6:30 p.m., plays host to Massapequa in boys volleyball.

3. Also at JFK, it's "Grady 9 Night" meeting, beginning a 7 p.m. It's a chance for parents to meet teachers and get a feel for the curriculum.

4. You might want to clear your calendar for this upcoming event: The 's annual open house is Sunday, Oct. 16, beginning at noon at Station 1 on Old Country Road. There will be games and prizes for kids and safety demonstrations.
