Winter Commencement set for Saturday at Farmingdale State

More than 600 students eligible to graduate at noon ceremony at Nold Hall

More than 600 students are eligible to graduate at the 11th Winter Commencement; 480 with their bachelor’s degree, 120 with their associate degrees and 2 with certificates.

Over 90 students have earned Latin Honors through exemplary academic performance.

Commencement will be presided over by President W. Hubert Keen. Members of the College Council and Farmingdale College Foundation are expected. The event is set for noon Saturday in Nold Hall.

The Keynote speaker will be Distinguished Teaching Professor of English Vicki Janik, who chairs the Department of Professional Communications.

A resident of Stony Brook, Dr. Janik plans to speak on the 7 Deadly Sins with a focus on Sloth.

She has a bachelor’s degree in music from Vanderbilt University, a master’s degree from DePaul University and a PhD from Stony Brook University in English. She has been awarded a Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Janik has written numerous articles and reviews and is the author or editor of four books: A Guide to The Merchant of Venice, A Critical Edition of The Play of the Wether (1533), Twentieth Century British Women Writers, and Fools, Clowns, and Jesters in Literature, Art, and History

Dr. Janik’s students have recently distinguished themselves by winning Fulbright Scholarships, a UUP (United University Professions) Award and a Mohammed Ali Global Citizens Scholarship.
