10K Race for ASPIRE Through Plainview Sunday

Come out this Sunday and support ASPIRE.

The 34th annual Nationwide Insurance  through the streets of Plainview and Old Bethpage is set for Sunday April 3.

More than 800 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes will take part in this community event. Several young amputees from the ASPIRE program will also be participating, who are also the event's direct beneficiaries.

ASPIRE is a special program set up in conjunction with the Amputee Coalition of America to provide prosthetic devices, physical therapy and rehabilitation through athletics to young amputees.

In order to ensure the safety of the runners in our community, please look at the attached map where the runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes will be passing through. The run will start at at 9 a.m. and the last participant should cross the finish line back at the school by 10:30 a.m.  Even though most of the streets will have been cleared, race organizers ask for patience when traveling during this timeframe. There will be a need to halt traffic at the Old Country Road and Round Swamp intersection as the runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes will be crossing over Old Country Road.

Many of the runners are participating for the first time. There will also be a Fun Run, which is set up for children and scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. At the end of the Run participants will be met with cupcakes and refreshments.
