Hawks Baseball Towers Over East Meadow

With an immense 14-6 victory, Plainview now stands at 9-5 overall.

The Hawks baseball team took down the East Meadow Jets with an impressive 14-6 victory on Tuesday afternoon - now standing 9-5 overall in Conference AA-II.

Having lost to East Meadow on Monday, 3-2, the Hawks were looking for revenge.  For most of the game, both teams were scoring evenly, with one catching up to the other on a consistent basis.  Plainview had a 4-0 lead going into the second inning, but East Meadow scored three runs before heading into the third.  This was the turning point of the game, showing that East Meadow wasn't going down without a fight.

Both teams scored one run each in the third inning, and then Plainview scored two runs in the fourth, followed by East Meadow grabbing two runs in the fifth.  With only two innings left, the score sat at 8-6.  Even though the Hawks had a two-point lead, there was a feeling that the Jets could come back.

The sixth inning proved to be the deciding factor of the game, with Plainview scoring a whopping seven runs.  Seven of the nine batters each scored a run - including Kosakavich, Strack, Burke, Doremus, Moskowitz, Noreman and Pakorny.

The Hawks walked off the field with confience that the games future was in their hands.  Neither team scored in the final inning, ending the game 14-6.

"We came out there today and played our best," said Plainview's Head Coach Justin Szwejkowski on his team's performance.  "East Meadow is a great team, and it was an exciting game.  We know how good we can play, and we're hoping to continue playing like this."

Among the highlights were freshmen Don Palumbo and Spencer Pakorny playing in their first varsity game.

"They both did well today" Coach Swejkowski added.

The Hawks will play against the Jets again at home on Thursday at 4:45 p.m.
