Hawks Softball Falls To Hicksville

Plainview JFK drops a 12-1 decision to rival Hicksville, but is still 8-3 overall.

The Plainview JFK softball team lost to Hicksville on Friday afternoon, 12-1. Unquestionably their worst performance of the season so far, the Hawks scored their one and only run of the game in the first inning.

Ena Otaka, the star shortstop for the Hawks, scored their only run. Otaka hit the winning home run on the April 9 game against Valley Stream, securing a 6-5 victory.  She also has not been taken out for a single inning this season so far.

While she wasn't able to save this game, she played her best, along with the rest of her teammates.  Hicksville scored four runs in the second inning, which put them up four points right away.  After a scoreless third inning, they scored three more runs in the fourth and fifth inning.

The Hawks pitcher, Katie Rutkofsky, didn't have as good of a game she did on Wednesday against Herricks (throwing a one-hitter and having 10 strike outs.)  She was taken out in the sixth inning, and replaced by Anna Lin.

Hicksville's pitcher controlled the game, throwing a two-hitter.

"We're played a solid season so far," Plainview Coach Neil Lasher said. "It's just unfortunate that we couldn't hold it together for this game.  We'll be fine though."

The Hawks are scheduled to play away against Valley Stream on Monday, and then against Bellmore on Tuesday.
