Local Girls Win Junior Soccer Crown

Plainview's Xtreme Power team are Girls-Under-15 Arch Capital Group Challenge Cup champs

The Plainview/Old Bethpage Xtreme Power defeated the Lindenhurst Extreme, 2-1, at Peter Collins Soccer Park in Plainview in a championship game of two Long Island Junior Soccer League teams.

The win gave Plainview/Old Bethpage the Girls-Under-15 Arch Capital Group Challenge Cup.

Dani Mendza and Ashley Stromberg scored Plainview/Old Bethpage’s goals.

“The difference in the game was we won every 50/50 ball,” said Plainview/Old Bethpage coach Craig Calderone. “If one girl loses the ball, another girl wins it back.”

Calderone praised midfielder Amanda Miller and defensive midfielder Jamie Redez, who “was a beast and a big-time ball winner.”
