The intense final minutes of Saturday's high school football game between nearby rivals Plainview JFK and Syosset saw the Hawks fall short, 7-0 in a hard-fought contest at Plainview.
Syosset scored the game's only touchdown just before halftime. The Braves mounted a 75-yard drive that concluded with Hunter Gross' 4-yard-run to the end zone with 20 seconds left.
The game, which saw Plainview give up five turnovers, became a defensive struggle in the second half, with neither team managing to score.
Plainview mounted two scoring drives in the final minutes of the game. One of those ended in a controversial interception off of a deflected pass. The second was on a last-gasp pass attempt by Hawks' quarterback Alec Abramowitz that was picked off by a Syosset defender as time expired.
Plainview and Syosset are now share 2-3 records in the Nassau I Conference.
