Three Magical Holes at Bethpage Black [VIDEO]

Bethpage State Park Director of Golf Joe Rehor breaks down Bethpage Black.

No one knows the renowned Bethpage Black golf course better than Joe Rehor. He’s been the head pro at for 35 years and seen two U.S. Opens play out in memorable fashion.

So when Rehor, 66, of West Babylon, gives you some insight into what to watch for as Tiger Woods, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson stalk the fairways, you listen.

“If I were coming here to watch this tournament I’d be with the crowd on No. 17,” Rehor said. “I would imagine there will be a few drinks out there and guys will be rip roaring after a few hours. I think that would be the place I’d like to hang out.”

play at The Barclays Tournament begins Thursday and runs to the Final on Sunday. Here are three holes Rehor recommends:

No. 5: Large oaks line the fairway and a small green adds drama. “It usually plays as one of the toughest holes,” Rehor said. Note: 478 yards, par 4.

No. 15: It’s an uphill hole with the green 50 feet above the fairway. Tremendous bunkers create a challenge. “This will be one of the most over pared holes on the golf course,” Rehor said. Note: 478 yards, par 4.

No. 17: An amphitheatre setting should make this the best place to watch the action. Stadium seating and concessions make it a fan-friendly hole. Bunkers surround the green, making pinpoint accuracy key. And the crowd should pump up the volume and the emotion. Note: 207 yards, par 3.

joe rehor is one of the most obtuse absent minded golf directors/managers in the golf business and is working because of seniority rather than by intelligence. Word of advice when he gives a golf lesson he does not even watch your swing half the time and talks nonsense and bullshit just to get your dollar.
