Photo of the Day: "Second Act"

Temple Beth Elohim holding monthly sessions geared for seniors.

Always looking for ways to bring people together, in Old Bethpage has formed a new senior group called Second Act.

The group began to take shape during the past year as the temple wanted to include senior-specific programming. Second Act will fulfill that mission.

The temple's inaugural meeting Sept. 7 featured Chuck Weinstein, president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Long Island, who presented a program entitled “3 Great Myths about Jewish Genealogy.”

The attendees were impressed with Mr. Weinstein’s wealth of information, and he gave all the impetus to begin their own genealogic search, armed with the many tips Mr. Weinstein provided.

He invited all to join the Jewish Genealogical Society of Long Island by logging onto the website at www.jgsli.org.

The group met again Tuesday, offering a puzzle-solving program led by Dr. Mel Drossman, who presented his popular workshop entitled “Brainercises”.

Second Act will meet on the second Monday of every month at noon. The monthly meetings will begin with lunch, with a nominal cost of $6 for Temple Beth Elohim members and $9 for non-temple members.

Each meeting will feature guest speakers, fun programming, and an occasional off-site trip. If you are interested in being part of this exciting new venture, please put the dates on your calendar.

Temple Beth Elohim, a Reform congregation serving Plainview-Old Bethpage and surrounding communities since 1955, hopes community members will join them.

Richard, I agree. This road has so many potholes that were fixed, it dips and the county trees haveRead More lifted it up in areas that now hold water. I have ben living here for over 30 years, and I cannot recall it ever being done. It needs to be done soon, I so agree with you. Maybe Mangano will see this and do something, then again if we lived in Bethpage, it would of been done already.
