Here's a look at the week ahead in Plainview:

1. Plainview Schools are back in session beginning today for what is only the second day of the school year.

2. Wednesday is the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Patch will have coverage all week of local and regional memorial services. Plainview's Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold a community memorial service Wednesday evening.

3. On Thursday, both middle schools host back-to-school night for 5th and 6th graders and their parents.

4. Also on Thursday, Plainview JFK opens its home football season against Farmingdale on its new turf field. The game is scheduled for late afternoon.

5. Friday evening marks Yom Kippur, the solemn Jewish Day of Atonement. Some businesses will close early.
