School Opens Wednesday; Rosh Hashanah Wednesday Evening

Here's a look at the short week ahead in Plainview, bordered by two holidays.

1. Plainview students return to school on Wednesday and then are off, Thursday and Friday.

2. The reason for the one-day school week, which is being treated differently all over Long Island, is Rosh Hashanah. The Hebrew New Year 5774, begins Wednesday evening and continues through Friday.

3. Chyten Test Prep of nearby Syosset is hosting a free PSAT practice exam at the Syosset Library on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Just bring pencils and a calculator. Details here.

4. We'll have an update on Plainview's new turf field as well as the work done to the Plainview Middle School's parking lot this week.
