Young man's perseverance against all odds will be one of his legacies.
Spencer Reis graduated from Plainview JFK High School Tuesday. His principal, James Murray, conferred Spencer's degree at the Plainview freshman's mid-day funeral. Hundreds of his classmates and a grieving community wept openly at the gesture. The honorary diploma was altogether fitting, because Murray and other educators and friends who spoke Tuesday said they learned far more from Spencer than they could ever impart to him. A standing-room crowd of more than 700 people bid farewell to Spencer Reis at the Plainview Jewish Center. Speaker after speaker told how the 14-year-old who loved animals and sports and clowning around impacted their lives. They recounted his infectious smile and the way he thanked people for the smallest of tasks, …

Young man made people laugh, loved football; he will be buried next to his grandfather.
Joseph Sadowski was a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan who loved to watch the NFL on Sundays surrounded by his family. The Mattlin Middle School 7th grader played for the Plainview Jayhawks football team of the Nassau Suffolk Football League. He proudly wore the uniform No. 8. "I think he wanted to be a little different than all the kids who were Jets and Giants fans," said Joseph's aunt, Diane Assemi. "And he liked a couple of guys on the Steelers." A battler on the football field and a kid who liked to make others happy, Joseph lost his fight with Leukemia on Monday. He was 13. He will be buried Friday beside the grave of the grandfather he never met. "He loved his video games, and he loved to play the comedian with his friends, Assemi said …
