Kim Yaris, Neighbor

As founder and Executive Director of Literacy Builders, my job involves lots of teaching.  I teach teachers. I teach children. In order to do this well, I must be something else first: a learner. I am endlessly fascinated by all things literacy. When I am not cooking dinner, running to piano lessons, or reading bedtime stories, I am learning about literacy. While I eagerly await the latest issue of The Reading Teacher and read Richard Allington and Lucy Calkins like smutty novels, I feel that the best learning I do happens when I work alongside children and teachers. My blog serves as my literacy learning sounding board. It’s the place where I share my ideas, my failings, my inspiration, and in general, my reflections about the job I value dearly: teaching.
