Man Falls 20 Feet; Airlifted to NUMC

Victim drops off ladder at Plainview Water District plant on Round Swamp Road; suffers neck and back injuries.

A worker for the fell about 20 feet from a ladder and had to be airlifted from the scene to , authorities said.

Nassau County Police units responded Tuesday afternoon to the report of an injured man at the water district property off Round Swamp Road.

The victim had fallen about 20 feet and suffered head and neck injuries, authorities said.

Emergency crews stabilized the man's neck and back as a Nassau County Aviation Unit helicopter flew to a landing area set up behind a shopping center on Hay Path and Round Swamp roads.

Helo No. 5 transported the victim to the trauma unit at NUMC.

The extent of the man's injuries were not immediately available. Water district officials could not be reached for comment.

The district operates twelve deep wells, three ground storage tanks, and the big one-and-one-quarter-million gallon elevated tank on Manetto Hill. Its maintenance crew provides year-round maintenance.
