Religious School Remembers 9/11

New school year at Temple Beth Elohim holds special opening ceremony.

's religious school began its classes on Sept. 11 and used the occassion to remember those lost in the terrorist attacks of 10 years earlier.

The morning began with the customary meeting of all students in all grades and their families in the sanctuary. But, unlike past years where a lighthearted and fun performance was put on to welcome the students, this year our students  and their families took part in an opening ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the events of 9/11.

With two tall yahrzeit candles representing the Twin Towers before them, Rabbi Michael Churgel and Cantor Rich Pilatsky read comments explaining what each memorial candle stood for - those who perished that day and those who must go on without them. After their comments, each lit a candle, and all in the sanctuary reflected in a moment of silence.
