Seven Companies Team Up to Put Out Plainview Blaze

Quick work manages to stop a difficult fire in a commercial building.

A major fire in a commercial building off Newtown Road brought a massive responsive to Plainview Thursday as firefighters fought the smoky blaze, authorities said.

Plainview firefighters responded to the initial report of a fire just after 10:30 a.m. in a commercial building at 18 Werman Court. The blaze extended into the building's cockloft, a narrow space between the ceiling and the roof, firefighters reported.

Seven fire companies responded to the scene, including Jericho, Bethpage, Farmingdale, South Farmingdale, Melville and Hicksville were called to assist. Firefighters battled the fire and quickly put it down despite mid-day temperatures in the upper 80s.
                 
No injuries were reported; a rehab area was set up to assist firefighters drained by the intense conditions, firefighters said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal's Office and the NCPD Arson and Bomb Squad, authorities said.

Newtown Road was closed in both directions for several hours as crews
battled the fire.
